His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor competed at the Isle of Man Shears sheep sheering competition in Andreas.
Sir John Lorimer participated in the annual event which made its comeback to the island last year.
It is hosted by Philip and Rose Christian of the Guilcagh Farm in Andreas.
Giving it a go
The Governor had two shearing lessons with Philip before the competition.
On Saturday (May 24) he took to the competition stage for the first time.
Speaking to Manx.News, Sir John said: “I had a slight slip but managed to recover from that and I think all the the whole fleet came off in one go. So that’s that’s the important thing.”
Upon being asked as to whether we’d catch him shearing with the lads next summer he said, with a grin on his face “I have a feeling I may have something else to do on those particular days”.
Isle of Man Shears
Yesterday’s event saw the farming community gather for the competition, but also a sweet nod to the late Robert Kissack with a trophy named in his memory.
Rob was a much loved member of the community and sadly lost his life in a RTC in December.
Orry Quayle picked up the Robert Kissack Memorial Trophy which was donated by Shaun Burgess.
