The government will not comment on any potential sale of Manx Telecom to a company owned by Jersey’s government.
Reports in the UK say that MT is about to bought in a deal backed by private equity firm CVC Capital Partners.
Those reports say that Jersey Telecom’s parent company, supported by CVC’s infrastructure arm CVC DIF, is in advanced talks to acquire MT.
When the issue was raised late last year, an MHK said he had concerns that the island’s key communications infrastructure would be under the control of a foreign government.
When Manx.News put this to the government today, a spokesperson said: “It would be inappropriate to provide a specific comment on any privately owned business which may or may not be going through a commercial transaction until such time as any such transaction is confirmed publicly.”
Similarly MT said: “As part of our standard practice, we do not comment on speculation or unverified information.”
