Govt Outlines Consistent Support for Net Zero

Extensive public consultation has revealed significant support for the island’s net zero goals, according to data released by the Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture.

Clare Barber released the information response to a question from Jason Moorhouse MHK, who asked for evidence of public consultation on the government’s net zero statement.

The findings show consistent public backing including a 2019 consultation found 92% of respondents supported community renewable energy projects, while 86% backed installing renewables before 2030.

A 2021 survey found 80% of people considered climate change an important issue.

More recent data from 2024 indicates 56% of people believe the Government should be doing more to reach its net zero target.

Business support is also strong, with a report noting over 75% of the island’s largest companies have net zero commitments.
