Gym to Close Doors After 25 Years

Carrefour Health Club in Douglas will close after nearly 25 years at the end of November.

The business says the decision has not been taken lightly and explains that rising expenses, coupled with the necessary cost-saving measures and reduced staffing level has played a significant role in the decision.

Studio classes at the gym will conclude at the end of October 2025, while the main gym will remain open through to the end of November 2025.

For those who have pre-paid for memberships, the gym is in the process of calculating any refunds that will be owed and will be in touch shortly.

Carrefour Closure

The full statement reads:

“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Carrefour Health Club at the end of November 2025. After nearly 25 years of serving this wonderful community, this decision has not been taken lightly. We want to express our deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to each and every one of our loyal members, both past and present. Your trust and support over the years have meant the world to us, and we are incredibly proud of all we’ve achieved together.

Operating a business in today’s financial climate is challenging, and like many small businesses, we have not been immune to the exponential rise in operational costs in recent years. Unfortunately, these continuing rising expenses, coupled with the necessary cost-saving measures and reduced staffing levels, have made it increasingly difficult to maintain the level of service we have always strived for and as such has played a significant role in our decision.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to all of our instructors, trainers, and suppliers who have supported us over the years, as well as our landlord, whose ongoing support and understanding has been appreciated.

As we enter our final months, we want to confirm that our studio classes will conclude at the end of October 2025, while the main gym will remain open through to the end of November 2025. For those who have pre-paid for memberships, we are in the process of calculating any refunds that will be owed and will be in touch with you shortly.

We know that Carrefour Health Club holds many cherished memories for so many of you, and we want to continue creating lasting moments right up until our final day. We are planning some farewell events during November, and we invite you all to join us as we celebrate the club’s legacy one last time.

Thank you again for your unwavering support. While we’re sad to say goodbye, we truly hope this is not the end, and that future opportunities may allow us to reconnect.

With heartfelt thanks and appreciation,

Team Carrefour
