Which local businesses visiting cruise ships use is a matter for them and their partners, the Enterprise Minister has stated.
The clarification from Minister Tim Johnston came in response to a written question from Jason Moorhouse, who asked about fair access to contracts for transport, entertainment, food, and other supplies.
Mr Johnston explained that cruise liners primarily rely on their own chosen shore excursion partners to deliver passenger experiences.
“These partners independently identify and contract local businesses for transport, entertainment, food, and other services,” Mr Johnston said.
Local Produce
Mr Johnston further noted that cruise operators sometimes source local produce and arrange performances, such as traditional Manx music, through port agents or excursion providers.
While the Department for Enterprise’s Visit Agency is not directly involved in selecting these local suppliers, he said it “actively supports and communicates with shore excursion companies to promote new and diverse offerings across the island”.
