A local farmer has issued a stark warning after a hay bale was pushed into the river and set alight overnight, echoing a similar incident reported last year.
Vicky Sloane‑Masson said the bale, which is valuable winter feed for livestock, was deliberately moved into the water before an attempt was made to ignite it.
She described the behaviour as “thoughtless” and said the consequences could have been far more serious.
She urged parents to be aware of where their children are at night and to make sure they understand the risks. “It’s not harmless fun, it puts property, livelihoods, and potentially lives at risk,” she said.
