Wildfire Warning Issued as Dry Spell Continues

The Manx National Farmers Union has urged people to take extra care in the countryside as warm, dry weather and ageing vegetation increase the risk of wildfires across the island.

Consecutive hot days have left bracken, gorse and other vegetation highly flammable, creating what the union describes as a growing “fire load”.

Even a small spark could quickly escalate into a fast‑moving blaze that would be difficult to contain and could stretch emergency services already working in challenging conditions.

The MNFU says wildfires pose serious danger to livestock, wildlife and anyone out enjoying rural areas, and is asking the public to act responsibly to help prevent avoidable incidents.

“Please don’t take a chance and be mindful of the risks to livestock, wildlife and other people. Your help in preventing fires is invaluable,” the union said.
