Hooper Criticises Timing of Ministerial Reshuffle

Lawrie Hooper MHK

Lawrie Hooper has criticised the Chief Minister’s decision to remove the Treasury Minister from office, describing the move as a sign of “panic” within government.

Commenting on the reshuffle of the Council of Ministers, the Ramsey MHK said: “Nothing quite says ‘panic’ like losing your treasury minister just before the budget and six months before the end of your administration.”

He also questioned the wider pattern of decision-making under the current administration, suggesting the changes were part of a broader issue rather than an isolated move.

“At what point do we say enough is enough with these constant U-turns and panicky decision-making?” he added.

The comments follow the Chief Minister’s decision to remove Dr Alex Allinson as Treasury Minister and Dr Michelle Haywood as Infrastructure Minister, replacing them with Chris Thomas and Tim Crookall respectively.

The reshuffle comes at a critical time for government, with the island’s next Budget due shortly and the current administration entering its final months in office.
