The North West Counties Football League has detailed the complex process behind scheduling fixtures, with FC Isle of Man facing unique logistical challenges.
Fixture Secretary Jeff Voller explained the complex system that the league has to juggle to ensure it can fulfil all its fixtures.
He said: “All 23 of FC Isle of Man’s home fixtures need to be set out for Saturdays, meaning they will play a considerable number of midweek away games.”
Mr Voller added that the club’s travel constraints require careful planning:
He said:”They request to play specific away fixtures during certain periods to reduce costs by travelling over by ferry, as the ferry service is restricted in the winter.”
Clashes
The club also has closed home dates due to other events on the island and must play away on the final Saturday of the season, as the Isle of Man FA Cup final takes place at The Bowl.
Mr Voller acknowledged the difficulties in balancing such requests: “We can try to accommodate every club’s requests, but we can make no guarantees.”
Away from the Ravens, the NWCFL’s fixture planning involves navigating ground shares, cup competitions, and club pairings.
Season
The Ravens are playing at home on Friday to League Two Fleetwood Town as part of its Festival of Football.
Paul Jones’ side kick off their league campaign on July 26 with a home game against Litherland REMYCA.
