Howard Parkin MBE FRAS was awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) BY HM The King, in the new years Honours list in 2025.
The award was given for services to the understanding of astronomy and the local community.
The investiture of the award took place at St. James’s Palace, on Thursday (December 4) where Howard received the honour in person from the Princess Royal, Her Royal Highness Princess Anne.

Howard was accompanied by his wife Sandra, and their son Craig and daughter Tracy.
Reflecting on the occasion, Howard said: “The whole experience was somewhat surreal. Princess Anne was absolutely wonderful.
“She asked me about how I became interested in astronomy. She was fully aware of the Isle of Man’s dark sky status and the problems of light pollution.
“As I say, the whole thing was just surreal, and I just feel humbled and grateful for having received this wonderful honour.”
