Innovation Challenge: Meet Zumo

Zumo, a UK-based digital assets infrastructure provider, has been named a finalist in the Isle of Man Innovation Challenge for its pioneering sustainability platform, Oxygen.

Inviting some of the best minds from near and afar, the challenge tasked entrants with presenting real world solutions for the FinTech, Cleantech, and Data & AI sectors.

Designed to tackle the environmental impact of cryptocurrency, Oxygen aligns with the Isle of Man’s commitment to green financial initiatives by 2026.

Mission

Nick Jones, Co-Founder & CEO of Zumo, highlighted the urgency of the mission: “Digital assets are entering a defining era. Blockchain is on the path to becoming core financial infrastructure. But this transition brings challenges: how do we ensure these technologies grow transparently, compliantly, and sustainably?”

Oxygen addresses this by measuring emissions at a wallet and token level, offering mitigation strategies like renewable energy certificates, and automating ESG reporting for compliance with regulations such as the EU’s MiCA framework.

Transformative

Kirsteen Harrison, Zumo’s Sustainability Director, emphasised the platform’s transformative potential: “Oxygen empowers companies in crypto—often criticised for their environmental impact—to transform into climate-conscious leaders. It provides the data, tools, and pathways to measure emissions and take verifiable action.”

The innovation has already achieved significant milestones, including powering Europe’s first decarbonised Bitcoin ETP and piloting MiCA-aligned climate disclosures. Recognised globally, Oxygen was named among the top 100 ESG solutions by FinTech Global and won “Best Application of ESG” at the Crypto AM Awards 2022.

Accessibility

Looking ahead, Zumo plans to expand Oxygen’s integrations and datasets while scaling its accessibility for firms of all sizes.

Nick said: “Our aim is to grow Oxygen into a flexible platform serving any organisation navigating innovation, compliance, and environmental impact.”
