Island Plan Update Shows Work To Do

The latest quarterly report on the Our Island Plan strategy reveals a mixed picture, with less than half of its total milestones completed as it passes the halfway point of the financial year.

The report for July to September 2025 shows only 38 of the Plan’s 83 milestones are finished, leaving 45 still outstanding.

While 12 milestones were completed this quarter, the pace of delivery will need to accelerate significantly to meet the plan’s targets.

In the justice sector, a milestone for the Criminal Justice Strategy was marked complete because the document had been “prepared for review,” raising questions about the threshold for completion.

The report also notes that a feasibility study for Blue Light hubs, commenced in July, is “due to complete in March” 2026, indicating a longer timeline for tangible outcomes.

On a positive note, the National Broadband Plan was a clear achievement, delivering ultrafast fibre to “99% of hard to reach premises”.

However, overall the report highlights the challenge ahead in fully delivering the plan’s promises before the administration’s end.
