Next week will see the island host a conference exploring the impact of AI and data on the maritime sector, attracting experts from leading UK businesses and universities.
The AI and Data Driven Maritime Innovation Conference will be held at the Launchpad in Douglas on Wednesday January 21, from 8.30am to 5pm.
It will feature presentations on cutting-edge projects, including an ‘AI Passport’ initiative from the University of Strathclyde and Edinburgh firm Zelim Ltd, which uses computer vision for real-time safety and rescue solutions at sea.
The event has drawn participants from the University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, and innovation catalyst Connected Places Catapult.
International and business representatives from the Netherlands, Carbon Happy World, and Driving Urban Transition will also attend.

Lee Clarke, Managing Director of Isle of Man Maritime, said: “The objective of the day is to bring together stakeholders from across the maritime sector around the Irish Sea rim.
“By connecting organisations from the Isle of Man, UK, Ireland and international partners we can explore how AI has the potential to help us to work more collaboratively across innovation, data, sustainability, skills and operations.”
