Chief Minister Alf Cannan emphasised economic resilience as one of his administration’s top priorities during the government’s ‘Listening to You’ roadshow.
He was speaking at the event on Wednesday evening at Castle Rushen High School.
Answering a question, Mr Cannan outlined the need for a “secure, vibrant, and sustainable future” as detailed in the Island Plan.
“We have to recognise the challenges that you are facing into the future,” he said, specifically noting concerns about an ageing population and declining birth rates.
The Chief Minister highlighted workforce development as a key focus, stating: “We’ve sought to increase the working population, trying to create an island which attracts our young people, both to stay, but also to come back.”
He stressed the importance of continuous progress, declaring “We cannot stand still, and we have to continue to push forward, to build an island that our young people and our young generation will be proud of in the future.”
