As the Isle of Man Rifle Association Winter League moves into its final third, the race for the Individual Championship could hardly be closer.
Based on current averages, with the two lowest scores dropped from the 12 matches shot so far, defending champion Ben Kelly (Port St Mary) leads the standings on 98.0.
Hot on his heels is Jean Quaye on 97.9, while Laxey veteran Harry Creevy sits third on 97.4. Completing the top five are Port St Mary’s Donna Gardner, the second lady shooter in contention, and Laxey’s Adrian Cowin, both locked on 97.3.
Team Honours
In the battle for team honours, Port St Mary stand head and shoulders above the chasing pack, leading Division 1 with 22 points.
Second placed Castletown, on 16 points, host Kirk Michael this week, while Laxey, also on 16, welcome fourth-placed Sulby.
That fixture could prove to be the standout tie of the round, provided Laxey are at full strength.
Port St Mary return to action after a bye week as they host Sandsiders. While the result may not be in doubt, all eyes will be on Kelly and Quaye competing shoulder to shoulder once again.
With the season approaching its climax, the Individual Championship looks set to go right down to the wire.
