Eleven years to the day since he first sat on the bench, magistrate Ken Crellin has retired from the role.
Mr Crellin’s final sitting was on Thursday, having first been sworn in on September 19 2013.
Vice-Chairman of the Isle of Man Magistrates’ Association David Nash led the tribute to Mr Crellin, saying he is “held in high regard by his fellow magistrates”.
Mr Nash added: “During his time as a magistrates, Ken has demonstrated all the qualities required to be a magistrate and used his life experiences, as well as his time on the bench to be able to inform sound judgement on matters before the court.”
He also noted that it is people like Mr Crellin who spends “hundreds of hours” given to protect and support the people of the Isle of Man.
Representing the Manx Bar advocate Jim Travers thanked Mr Crellin for time on the bench and his patience in dealing with defendants and advocates, saying he has made a “meaningful contribution to judicial life on the Isle of Man and wider society”.
Speaking for the prosecution service, Sara-Jayne Dodge she wished Mr Crellin well in his retirement and thanked him for the hours he has given to the role.

Mr Crellin said his time on the bench had gone by “so quickly”, thanked everyone for their kind words and extended his personal thanks to the court staff for their support and his colleagues on the bench for their work alongside him over the years.
