Liverpool Airport has confirmed has told Manx.News it will provide a quiet room to patient transfer passengers.
Concerns were raised last night after the local charity which drove for its introduction posted that it had been told it was to close.
A representative from the airport told Manx.News: “We are in discussions with Manx Breast Cancer Support Group and remain committed to providing a quiet room for cancer patients at the Airport.
“Changes are currently being made to the terminal to improve the customer experience which includes relocating the existing facility.”
However, while the airport has committed to opening a new area for the use of patient transfer passengers returning from the UK, it has not confirmed what form this will take.
Carole Male, who as part of the Isle of Man Breast Cancer Support Charity which pushed for the creation of the room, said the airport has offered “four seats in a public lounge instead”.
She added: “Patients need privacy especially after chemo and unpleasant invasive procedures, nothing more humiliating than being sick in public and being watched by everyone – we’ve been there!”
Carole also said that if the airport can find a proper room for people while it carries out its redevelopment she would be the first to thank the charity.
