Manx Utilities has confirmed that the final handover of the new Kewaigue Hill pipeline will be pushed back after a defect was discovered during routine end‑stage checks.
During the last round of inspection and testing, a CCTV survey identified an issue within the newly installed pipework that must be repaired before the asset can be accepted from the contractor and brought into service.
MUA says all new infrastructure undergoes a rigorous sign‑off process, and the defect needs to be resolved now to avoid more serious disruption or cost later.
To carry out the remedial work safely, Kewaigue Hill (Castletown Road) will close from 9:30am on Friday (July 10) and remain shut until the evening of Sunday (July 12).
The closure will begin after the morning peak to reduce impact on commuters travelling into Douglas. Access via Port Soderick will stay open throughout.
Manx Utilities acknowledged the additional closure will be frustrating for residents, businesses and road users, but said completing the fix before commissioning the pipeline is the most responsible option.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and thank everyone for their patience and understanding while this final stage of the project is completed.”
