His Excellency Sir John Lorimer and Lady Lorimer have enjoyed two informal visits to Manx lighthouses over the past week.
There are six lighthouses on the Isle of Man and they play a crucial role in guiding ships, preventing ship wrecks and ensuring marine safety around our coast.
All the lighthouses fall under the care and management of the Northern Lighthouse Board.
Lighthouses
The first visit took place last Thursday, when Sir and Lady Lorimer were given a tour of Douglas lighthouse, by Fred Fox, retained lighthouse keeper and Dick Welsh, Commissioner of the Northern Lighthouse Board.
The lighthouse, which sits on the north side of the cliff below Douglas Head, has been operational since 1892, having replaced an earlier construction.
This week, His Excellency and Lady Lorimer took a trip to Langness lighthouse and were accompanied again by Fred Fox.
Langness Lighthouse was established in 1880 and, like the one in Douglas, was engineered by brothers David and Thomas Stevenson.
Many changes have occurred since then. Langness was automated in 1996.
The automation of both lighthouses has subsequently enabled the sale of the adjacent buildings, that once housed the keepers, and which are now in private ownership.
Both properties are available as holiday lets.
