One of many brilliant performances over the weekend at the IOM Championships came from Lucy Cartwright in the U17 Women’s javelin.
Throwing the age group weight javelin (500g) Lucy achieved a best distance of 31.06 metres, beating Megan Lockwood’s IOM age group record set in 2017 by more than two metres.
During the recent Northern League match in Leigh, Lucy threw the senior weight javelin (600g) 29.15 metres which is an Island Games B standard.
Athletics All-Rounder
Lucy has been competing in athletics since a very young age, and is a real all-rounder who is good at disciplines ranging from cross-country running to pole vault, but over the past year she has started to really excel in throwing events.
I don’t think anyone over the whole weekend had as broad a smile as Lucy had on Saturday after her javelin performance, and she deserved to be happy after all her hard work paid off in style!
