Malew AFC Pays Tribute to Club President

Malew AFC has paid tribute to its Club President Brian ‘Ace’ Lowey, hailing him as one of the most important figures in the club’s history.

The club explained he was a proud Ballasalla man, and a true Malew AFC legend as not only one of the finest players the club has produced, but one of its greatest servants.

Known for his talent, toughness and high standards, he led by example on the pitch before going on to serve the club as a coach, committee member, groundsman, trustee and ultimately Club President.

Tribute to President

Lowey was a key part of the famous 1966/67 Malew side that won every game to secure promotion.

In 1974, injury denied him a place in the Hospital Cup Final as Malew defeated Peel 5–2, with his brothers Alfie and Gordy both scoring.

Away from Malew, he was a devoted Blackpool FC supporter and a respected cricketer with Ronaldsway Cricket Club.

Brian’s passing is a great loss to Malew AFC and the Ballasalla community.

The club’s thoughts and sympathies are with his family at this difficult time.
