Armed police were dispatched to the Albert Street area of Ramsey this morning.
The Constabulary has said it is unable to comment on why as the incident remains under investigation.
A statement said: ‘A male was detained by armed officers after surrendering himself to them around 9:30am in the area of Albert Street, Ramsey. Police would like to reassure the public that this was an isolated incident and the public are not at risk.”
However, after criticism of its actions on social media, the Police added that it felt necessary to “reassure the public that the use of armed officers was necessary, that the male was not injured during the arrest and is currently safe and well”.
