Dr Brian Murray, Manx Care Consultant Psychologist, has been appointed as UK Chair for Counselling Psychology.
The appointment was made following an election within the British Psychological Society (BPS).
This means that Dr Murray will chair the BPS Executive Committee for Counselling Psychology, and sit on the British Psychological Society Senate.
He will connect with other leads around the world regarding strategy and innovation, meaning that his work in Manx Care will be informed by the most up-to-date developments within Counselling Psychology.

The mission of the network chaired by Dr Murray is to advance the profession of Counselling Psychology, promoting the wellbeing of our diverse society.
They value creative, compassionate and collaborative work, that meets the psychological needs of those accessing services.
He will also be able to take this opportunity to understand how those in the network are attracting, developing and retaining Counselling Psychology trainees – a key part of the Mental Health workforce.
Dr Murray said: “I feel it is important to clarify the strengths and differences of Counselling Psychology compared with the other branches of Psychology.
“Counselling Psychologists can make a real difference with people, with systems, and within our community, and I’m looking forward to celebrating our profession, whilst working collaboratively with the network and my Manx Care colleagues to positively develop the support we provide our service users wherever possible.”
