Manx Care has “totally” refuted a claim that it cannot offer Manx trainee nurses jobs on island.
Onchan MHK Julie Edge posted to say the organisation wasn’t able to hire all nurses who qualify on island.
Ms Edge said :A cohort of student nurses trained locally through the Isle of Man’s own student nursing programme are being told by Manx Care that there maybe NO jobs for them.
“These are our students – Our future workforce. They’ve committed years of study, training in our healthcare system, ready to serve our community… only to be told they may not get a job.
“This is not just unfair it’s short-sighted.”
Refuted
However, Manx Care commented on the post to say it “totally refutes this”.
It said: “We are committed to employing all student nurses who have trained on the island and who qualify this year if they wish to have a role within Manx Care.
And added: “We will put out a full statement on this matter later so there is understanding on this but are offering all newly qualified nurses a role within Manx Care and a further opportunity for those that wish of a rotational role across a number of area of Manx Care to assist newly qualified nurses to gain wider experience across our integrated health and care organisation.
“We absolutely want all of our nurses who we have trained on island to have a job with us.”
Ms Edge however said that there are no advertised posts for newly qualified nurses on wards and said she looked forward to seeing the full statement.
