Manx‑born racing driver Nickolas Ellis has been selected by three‑time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Benoît Tréluyer to race for his Trajectus Motorsport team.
He will compete in this year’s Ligier European Series.
The 19‑year‑old, who grew up in Port Erin in a home once owned by former Formula One World Champion Nigel Mansell, will contest the six‑round, one‑make championship in a Ligier JSP4 as he continues his push toward competing in the world‑famous 24‑hour race.
Le Mans Team
Ellis begins his campaign in Barcelona on April 10 to 11and sees the series as a key step on the endurance racing ladder, with ambitions to reach the European Le Mans Series and ultimately the FIA World Endurance Championship within five years.
His selection follows an impressive return to racing last year after a break to complete his A‑Levels and continue his ambassadorial work with the Just Dream Movement and UK Youth, where Mansell serves as President.
Teaming up with Jules Tréluyer, the son of Benoît, Ellis stormed from 17th on the grid to win a six‑hour endurance race at Le Mans’ Bugatti Circuit, a result that marked a significant milestone in his rising career.
The pair later added third and fourth place finishes at Portimão.
Pursue Ambitions
Ellis continues to use his platform to encourage young people to pursue their ambitions, mirroring his own journey through the sport.
Mansell said he was “thrilled” to see Ellis progressing both on and off the track, praising his work as an #iwill Champion and Young Ambassador.
Ellis will race on home soil later in the season when the Ligier European Series visits Silverstone on September 11 to 12.
