Motiv8 Addiction Services will hold a Family and Friends workshop offering support to people across the island affected by someone else’s dependency behaviours.
The free, confidential SMART Family and Friends session on Saturday, March 21, will run from 10am to 3pm and has been scheduled at the weekend to make it easier for those unable to attend weekday support.
The workshop, delivered by trained Motiv8 staff using a programme developed by SMART Recovery UK, is open to anyone aged 18 or over impacted by another person’s alcohol, drug, gambling or gaming dependency.
Dependency Workshop
The morning will focus on practical strategies to understand behaviours, improve communication and manage challenging situations at home, while the afternoon will give attendees the chance to share experiences and explore real‑life scenarios.
The day will finish with a relaxation session, including optional auricular acupuncture, aimed at helping reduce stress. Lunch and warm drinks will be provided.
Accredited Addictions Professional Tiffany Crookall said the aim was to give families and friends a safe space to learn and feel supported, adding: “We know that family members and friends are often deeply impacted by dependency behaviours, yet they can feel isolated and unsure where to turn.”
Senior Recovery Support Worker Louise McColgan said the workshop is suitable for anyone affected, including friends and colleagues, and emphasised that all support is free and confidential.
Spaces are limited and early booking is encouraged.
