The Isle of Man Farm Shop Company will open to the public today at the infamous Swiss Chalet at Glen Helen.
It brings together a wide range of Manx food, drink and craft producers all under one roof.
Manx.News’ Charlie Morrey was given a tour of the site by CEO Matt Harrison, who said the aim is to create a dedicated showcase for local suppliers.
The shop includes a full butchery counter offering meat from Tates Butchers, Lee Mayers Butchers and Loaghtan producers Jenny Shepherd and Rawdon Hayne of Ballacosnahan Farm.
Fresh seafood, including queenies, crabs, dressed lobster and live lobsters, will be delivered daily.
“They come up every morning straight out the sea. You just cannot get fresher,” Harrison said.
Self‑serve fridges provide grab and go essentials, while seasonal vegetables from Allanson’s fill the central displays.
Shelves are stocked with Manx jams, preserves, honey and duck eggs.
Harrison said the quality of local produce is often overlooked once it reaches supermarket shelves. “The quality of that veg coming out of the ground is better than you can find in any supermarket here or across,” he said.
A counter will serve tea, coffee, soups and toasted sandwiches made with bread from Ross Bakery, Noa and Laxey Flour.
Boutique
A second room houses a boutique area featuring Manx makers including Soral, Elemental Jewellery and Loaghtan wool products.
Items include handmade bears by Bears and Hares, bespoke chopping boards and locally made trinkets.
Harrison said only around 40% of potential suppliers can be displayed at once, so stock will rotate.
Monthly farmers’ markets and craft fairs will also be held to support smaller producers.
Alongside the shop, the Bistro at the Lodge will open daily except Tuesdays, serving takeaway breakfasts from 7am and offering breakfast, brunch and lunch until 3pm.
The farm shop plans to run regular events, including butchery nights and cinema nights.
