Isle of Man Commonwealth Games athlete Sarah Astin had a cracking run over the weekend to place second woman in the Telford 10km road race.
Sarah clocked an excellent time of 32:42 to finish eight seconds adrift of winner Amelia Quirk.
Sarah’s time is just seven seconds down on her personal best set at the Trafford 10km race in 2023.
Having had a recent coaching switch, Sarah looks to be approaching her best form with a lot to aim for over the coming months.
Telford 10k
In addition to Sarah Astin’s second place in the women’s race, there were also outstanding performances from Mike Loundes and Dawn Atherton.
Mike’s performances in recent years have been astonishing, and he has comprehensively rewritten the Isle of Man road running record books in the men’s 70 age group.
Recently elevated to the 75 category, he looks like doing just the same there.
He ran a fantastic time of 45:22 to win the 75-79 category race by more than nine minutes, and also set an Isle of Man 75 record by an even bigger margin.
Personal Bests
Dawn finally achieved a long-held ambition to crack the 40-minute barrier for 10km, and she did it in style to complete a wonderful year in 2024.
Her time of 39:18 placed her second in the women’s 40 category and beat her previous best by one minute and four seconds.
That was despite windy conditions and a lot of congestion on the course.
