A local woman has been sitting in one of television’s most famous chairs, while being grilled by a BBC Mastermind presenter.
Mastermind, one of the BBC’s longest running quiz shows is renowned for its high pressure tough questioning on the contestants chosen specialised subject as well as general knowledge.
Carol Kermode from Orrisdale will be appearing in tomorrow night’s programme as BBC news anchor Clive Myrie fires the questions.
Interrogation
The programme’s creator Bill Wright, was said to have drawn inspiration for the show from his experiences of being interrogated by the Gestapo during World War Two.
The famous minimalist set, with the black swivel chair, darkened studio, the clock ticking down and the contestant sat in the sharp spotlight all adds to the pressure of those taking part.
Famous Presenters
The programme has been presented by many well know TV personalities including, Peter Snow, Clive Anderson and John Humphries.

Magnus Magnusson
But by far, the most famous Presenter of the show, was the man who coined the phrase “I’ve started so I’ll finish”, Magnus Magnusson.
Magnusson, who was awarded a KBE in 1989, presented the quiz show from its inception in 1972 through to 1997.
The rules of the show being that if the time-up buzzer sounds, the Presenter is allowed to finish the question and the contestant given the opportunity to answer.
Carol’s family are really excited about her appearance on the famous show. Her daughter Kirree posted on Facebook.

The secrets of television mean we cannot tell you how Carol gets on, (as we don’t actually know!) or what her chosen specialist subject is, but a hint from the BBC Mastermind website, tells us it could be something about ‘Cattle’! All will be revealed soon.
