Memorandum With Liverpool Published

The government has published the memorandum of understanding it signed with Liverpool City Council, and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

Published following a question from Onchan MHK Julie Edge, the document sets out how the island and Liverpool can enhance economic, cultural, and political links.

Signed by Chief Minister Alf Cannan, Liverpool City Council leader Liam Robinson, and Liverpool city region mayor Steve Rotheram, the MoU aims to “improve the prosperity and wellbeing of our communities” through closer collaboration.

Key areas of cooperation include:

  • Economic Opportunities: Strengthening trade and investment ties through partnerships like the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce and Isle of Man Department for Enterprise.
  • Tourism and Culture: Promoting tourism and cultural exchanges, including joint initiatives in festivals, film, and music.
  • Transport Connections: Improving sea and air links to support economic and social engagement.
  • Health and Public Services: Sharing expertise, particularly in healthcare, with Liverpool’s NHS institutions supporting Isle of Man residents.
  • Infrastructure and Net Zero: Collaborating on energy projects and sustainable housing to meet net zero goals.
  • Education: Enhancing lifelong learning opportunities through shared best practices.

The agreement includes plans for an annual conference, alternating between the Isle of Man and Liverpool, to review progress.
