Millennium Bridge to Close Nightly

The Douglas Harbour Millennium Bridge will close overnight for four nights next week to allow for scheduled mechanical inspections and maintenance.

The bridge will be shut to all users from 8pm to 4am, Monday, March 2 through to Friday, March 6.

The Department of Infrastructure says the work requires the installation of stop logs and repeated lifting and lowering of the structure, meaning it could not be carried out alongside last month’s installation of the refurbished hydraulic lifting cylinder.

Millennium Bridge Closure

The DoI notes that the closure window includes some contingency, and later‑week closures may not be needed if work progresses ahead of schedule.

During the closures, no pedestrian or vehicle access will be permitted across the bridge.

Traffic will be diverted via the Stone Bridge at the top of the harbour. Access for vessels to the inner harbour will also be restricted, with a Notice to Mariners issued by the Harbours Division.

The department says carrying out the work at night will help minimise disruption to commuters and city‑centre businesses.
