A new monthly direct debit option is now available to help patients spread the cost of their prescription pre‑payment certificates.
The change follows Tynwald’s approval of the NHS (Charges for Drugs and Appliances) (Amendment) Regulations 2026, allowing the £54 annual certificate to be paid in 10 monthly instalments of £5.40. The total cost remains the same.
The certificates cap what a patient pays for prescription items over 12 months. The update builds on last August’s move to let people apply for and receive certificates online via Isle of Man Government Online Services.
Affordable Options
Health and Social Care Minister Claire Christian MHK said: “This change is about providing affordable options to patients who pay for their prescriptions.
“By building on the move to online pre-payment certificates with this new monthly payment option, we are removing unnecessary barriers and ensuring people can access the medicines they need in a way that best fits their circumstances.”
Dr Chris Stockport, Manx Care’s Executive Medical Director, said: “Upfront costs can sometimes be a deterrent for patients, even where they represent good value over the year. Introducing a monthly direct debit option gives people greater flexibility and control over how they pay.
“This change supports our ongoing commitment to making services more accessible, convenient and responsive to the needs of our community.”
All existing prescription charge exemptions remain unchanged.
