New Advice Issued After Patients Slept in Airport

Manx Care says that correct processes were followed after some patients slept on an airport floor due to a cancelled flight.

The Loganair flight on June 25 was cancelled with some passengers saying they slept at Liverpool Airport.

One person providing feedback to the Patient Transfer Facebook page said people slept at the airport as the airline told them there “were no hotels available”, others were able to book hotels or find alternative flights.

A Manx Care spokesperson said: “We’re very sorry to hear about the experience some patients had following the disruption of the Loganair flight on the evening of June 25.

“We understand how unsettling unexpected travel changes can be, particularly when they involve overnight stays.”

They added: From what we’ve reviewed, it appears that the correct processes were followed on the night.

“Passengers were advised to book their own accommodation and submit expenses to Loganair for reimbursement, which is in line with standard procedures in such situations, and this is currently being followed for those passengers who booked accommodation and claimed the cost back.

“Patient Transfer’s 24-hour on-call emergency phone number was also available, and we received one call that evening where appropriate advice was given.

“However, Manx Care acknowledges that communications could have been better, and we have amended the travel warrant that is sent to patients prior to their travel to emphasise that they can call our out of hours service for help and advice if in difficulty due to travel disruption.”
