The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture has opened recruitment for a new Chair and Non‑Executive Directors to join the Board of Isle of Man Meats.
The Tromode-based facility, which provides the crucial link between farmers and consumers, is undergoing significant operational and commercial changes aimed at improving performance and reducing reliance on government subsidy.
DEFA says it is seeking individuals capable of helping deliver a long‑term strategic plan for the plant.
Non-Executive Directors will receive a daily rate of £500, with an enhancement for the Chair; roles require approximately two days per month.
New Board
Successful applicants will be expected to offer independent oversight and strategic challenge to the Senior Management Team, bringing skills that complement the company’s ongoing restructuring.
Tim Cowsill, DEFA’s Chief Officer, said the meat plant remains “strategically important” to the island’s agricultural sector and food security. He thanked the current Board for “stepping in to support the plant during a difficult time of transition”.
The Isle of Man Meat Company has undergone at least three board shake‑ups or recruitment rounds in the past two years, including a full restructure in 2024 and further appointments in 2025.

A DEFA spokesperson told Manx.News: “The review of, and recruitment to, the Board was committed to in Tynwald, with the process taking place in April 2026.
“The current Board members have been involved in the review, are invited to reapply, and remain in position. Any changes resulting from the recruitment process will be announced once it is complete.”
