A new monthly LGBTQ+ peer support group has been launched on the island, offering a space for people to connect and share experiences in a supportive setting.
The group, Goll Twoaie (meaning “Rainbow” in Manx Gaelic) operates under local charity Preferred Futures and aims to reduce isolation and strengthen wellbeing within the island’s LGBTQ+ community.
The name reflects both LGBTQ+ pride and a commitment to Manx heritage, signalling that queer people are an integral part of island life.
Peer Support Group
Sessions will be peer‑led but professionally supported, providing a structured environment with clear pathways to further help where needed.
Founder Marcella Martin said her experience volunteering with Wolverhampton LGBTQ+ and her ongoing counselling and psychotherapy training inspired her to create a similar space locally.
“Recognising that there is no equivalent peer-led space here, I felt strongly about launching Goll Twoaie so LGBTQ+ people can feel seen, heard and supported in a space that is both safe and culturally rooted,” she said.
The group will hold its official launch at Kiki’s Bar in Douglas tonight (March 4) at 7pm, open to adults within the LGBTQ+ community who want to learn more or get involved.
Goll Twoaie also hopes to collaborate with other peer-led and community support groups across the island to build stronger connections.
