No commitment or decision has yet been made over a possible new primary school in the south of the island, the education minister has confirmed.
Responding to questions in Keys, Daphne Caine said should any plans progress around the development, her department remains ready and able to be involved in any discussions.
Jason Moorhouse had asked Mrs Caine for clarity given the rise in student numbers in recent years, saying “there’s a real issue in terms of Ballasalla Primary School at the moment”.
Minister Caine confirmed pupil numbers had risen sharply, stating: “They have increased significantly from 2020 – they were 101 pupils. And in September 2024, that had increased to 167.”
She added that temporary measures are being introduced, including the installation of additional space.
Mrs Caine said: “Planning approval was given for [a mobile classroom] a week ago, and we hope to have that in place for the autumn term.”
