Retired police officers, or their dependants, who were serving as at April 1, 1992 and who were in receipt of the Police Housing Allowance could be eligible for a one-off payment.
An administrative issue has been identified which resulted in the uplift to this allowance not being applied between April 1, 1992 and September 1, 1994.
The Department has agreed to make an ex-gratia payment of £250 to recognise this historical error to those officers who meet the above criteria.
Retired police
Some retired officers may have already been contacted through the National Association of Retired Police Officers, if someone has applied through this channel then an additional application is not required.
If you believe you may have been impacted by this, please contact dhafinance@gov.im before 31 March 2024.
Error
The error relates to changes made between 1992 and 1994 to Police Housing Allowance.
This statutory uplift was not applied, due to an administrative error by the Department at that time.
The Department understands it has no legal obligation to make recourse, given the time that has elapsed since the payments should have been made.
