The Police stopped 198 cars over the Christmas period, resulting in 22 were arrests on suspicion of drink or drug driving.
Held between November 29 and January 4 the Roads Policing Unit’s Operation Ripple Effect, was run in partnership with the Road Safety Team and local neighbourhood Policing Teams.
Operation Ripple Effect was a targeted operation to tackle drink and drug drivers over the Christmas period, whilst also continuing the work started during Operation Uplift, an operation aimed at improving the standards of vehicles on the Islands roads, and to tackle fatal five offences.
Police said: “Between November 29 and January 4, we can confirm, that as a result of Operation Ripple Effect, 198 vehicles were stopped as part of the operation.
“Of those 198 vehicles, 117 vehicles were identified to have a defect, 9 drivers committed documentation offences (No licence, no insurance and or no tax) and 22 were arrested on suspicion of driving / being in charge of a vehicle whilst under the influence of drink or drugs.
“It goes without saying, those who make the deliberate choice to get behind the wheel of car / ride a motorcycle whilst under the influence or drink or drugs, pose a risk to those of us carrying out their daily business.
“The decision made by those can be costly to not only themselves, but to the person they could collide with, or the family and friends of someone seriously injured as a result of a collision.”
