Oscar Maddrell has claimed a landmark victory at the British Nationals, becoming the Isle of Man’s first male British champion in nearly two decades after winning the 1500m freestyle.
Competing on the opening day of the championships, Maddrell delivered a standout swim to take the title in 16:35.55, a result celebrated across Manx sport and highlighted by his team as an “amazing achievement”.
The win marks a major moment for Manx swimming, with Maddrell now holding a British title last achieved by a male Island athlete 18 years ago.
His teammates continue racing over the coming days, with Isle of Man Swimming wishing the squad well as the competition progresses.
