Part of Mountain to Close For Works

The DoI has announced a one-day closure of the Mountain Road between Creg Ny Baa and Brandywell Corner next month.

It will close on Tuesday July 8 to allow for essential safety works.

The department said the road will be shut from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm while contractors carry out specialist surface treatment near Keppel Gate.

The work involves a process called captive shot blasting, which roughens the road surface to improve skid resistance.

The department said the treatment is being done to enhance safety for all road users, particularly in wet weather conditions.

It confirmed the work should be completed in a single day if weather permits, with backup dates of July 9-11 if needed.

This stretch of road was originally scheduled for full resurfacing earlier this year as part of a wider scheme that included drainage improvements.

The department said those works were delayed due to logistical issues, and the shot blasting is being done as a temporary measure to improve grip before winter.

The drainage works will now take place at a later date.
