The government has rejected an appeal against approval for almost 100 new homes in Peel, but has blocked plans to replace a historic farmhouse with tourist accommodation.
The appeal, brought by Peel Town Commissioners, German Parish Commissioners, and a local resident, sought to overturn the approval for 92 dwellings, infrastructure, and public open space on land near Glenfaba Rise.
Following an inquiry Minister Clare Barber accepted the independent inspector’s recommendation for a split decision.

The main housing development can proceed, subject to conditions.
However, the minister refused the part of the application concerning Ballaterson Farm.
The inspector’s report stated: “The development would lead to the loss of an existing dwelling in the countryside of architectural and historic interest which is capable of renovation.”
The approved 92-home scheme includes a commitment that 25% will be affordable housing.
