Health and Social Care Minister Claire Christian has confirmed that proposals to replace the Cummal Moor residential home in Ramsey will be brought before Tynwald before the summer recess.

This has been welcomed by her predecessor Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper.

Ms Christian told Keys: “I was able to visit Cummal Moor on March 27 and see firsthand the hard work of the dedicated staff.

“The department expects to bring proposals to this court before the summer recess, in line with the commitment made by previous ministers.”

Review

The project, already in the detailed design phase when Ms Christian took office, will now undergo review.

“We want to review the design with Manx Care and those providing the service now to ensure it is flexible and appropriate,” she said.

Mr Hooper welcomed the clarity but stressed the need for better communication with stakeholders.

“There was a change in the mandate which called for a complete review, but it doesn’t feel like there was any communication before that happened,” he said.

Ms Christian acknowledged concerns, stating: “I have asked Manx Care to ensure communications remain open.”

She also confirmed the Ramsey Northern District Housing Committee, which owns the proposed site, would be consulted.

When asked about the project’s priority, Ms Christian revealed Cummal Moor is currently fifth on the capital projects list. Full details are expected before summer recess.

The minister concluded: “We will keep in constant communication with them during the next stages.”
