Police have issued a warning to parents as Year 11 pupils begin study leave, with concerns over underage drinking linked to social media posts.
Officers say some recent posts appeared to “support the use of alcohol whilst underage”.
The Constbulary said: “Drinking alcohol whilst under age is illegal and does have serious consequences and is not just ‘a right of passage’.”
Additional patrols will be deployed to certain areas and Police have warned that if a child is found in a condition where they cannot keep themselves safe, “we will be calling parents/guardians to collect them”.
Parents are asked to keep phones switched on and ensure someone can collect their child if needed.
Lost year saw a number of events broken by the Police due to overzealous drinking.
