Pool Expecting Increased Losses

The Southern Swimming Pool is projected to record a loss of £117,943 in the 2025/26 financial year, according to a financial plan published by its board.

The figures were released by Minister Daphne Caine in response to a written question from Onchan MHK Julie Edge.

The budget shows total income of £810,443, with £478,489 coming from government contributions and £95,000 from local authorities.

Operational income, including public entrances and classes, is expected to rise slightly to £236,954.

Costs

However, expenditure is set to outstrip revenue, with staffing costs alone reaching £500,000 and operational costs climbing to £72,800.

The financial plan notes: “This does not take account of the year end actuarial adjustments for pension interest and service costs.”

It also excludes capital expenditure. Despite a projected profit of £42,143 before other costs, depreciation and irrecoverable VAT push the pool into the deficit.

This does not take account of the year end actuarial adjustments for pension interest and service cost.

The document highlights ongoing financial challenges, with repair and maintenance costs rising to £50,000 and utilities increasing to £125,750.
