The amount of time the Isle of Man prison has been in lockdown will be under question in the House of Keys.
Douglas North MHK David Ashford is to question the Minister for Justice and Home Affairs Jane Poole-Wilson MHK on it tomorrow (November 5).
Mr Ashford wishes to know how many occasions has an entire prison wing been locked down for a continuous period of more than 12 hours but less than 24 hours; and 24 hours or more.
His question excludes the standard overnight lockdown and the 54 days’ lockdown for COVID-19.
Prison Lockdowns
The question follows a written answer from the Justice and Home Affairs Minister in which she revealed that prisoners may be locked in cells “for short periods of time” due to required staffing profiles not being available.
Staff have not been available as a result of staff sickness or medical escorts.
In her written answer, the Minister said there are also other occasions where prisoners may be locked in their cells for short periods of time for security reasons, such as incidents of indiscipline or system failures.
