A Ramsey commissioner says more should be done for to develop a replacement for Cummal Mooar goes on.
There is no fixed timeline for when a bid for finances to replace Cummal Mooar will go to Tynwald, the Health Minister confirmed this week.
Commissioner Juan McGuinness said: “The Health Minister’s latest statement on Cummal Mooar confirms what Ramsey residents already know: the project has stalled, with no fixed date for action.”
“While the department talks about ‘modern, flexible’ models of care, the reality is that carers and families across the north are being left without the respite and support a new facility would provide,” he added.

Mr McGuinness stated: “The ‘Home First’ strategy may suit some, but it cannot be a substitute for proper residential provision in the heart of Ramsey.”
“Instead of caring about care, this feels like an exercise in stalling from our Isle of Man Government – avoiding spending the money while residents and staff continue to shoulder the burden,” the commissioner said.
“The staff at Cummal Mooar continue to do great work under difficult circumstances, but they are working in a building that is long past its best,” he noted.
Mr McGuinness said: “I will be calling for Ramsey Town Commissioners to write formally to the Minister demanding a clear commitment and timeline.”
“This isn’t only about Cummal Mooar, but also about the wider northern provision of sheltered housing and the replacement of Cooil ny Marrey. Ramsey deserves better,” he said.
