The Calf of Man Bird Observatory has had a record breaking season for the birth of seal pups.
The first pup of the season, ‘Cabbage’, was born on August 30, and as of this week there have been a record breaking 101 pups.
This beat last year’s new record of 98.
Seal Pups
Each day, the Calf of Man Bird Observatory team has surveyed half of the island, with the help of the Manx Wildlife Trust thermal drone.
The charity says this “has totally changed the game for seal monitoring on the Calf!”
The letter for this year’s seal pup names is ‘C’, and seal volunteers Alex and Bea have been very creative.
Highlights include Combine harvester, Crumble, Cassiopeia, and competition winner Crumpet.
