A memorial service has been held to mark the 68th anniversary of the 1958 Winter Hill air disaster.
The gathering took place at Cooil y Ree Gardens in St John’s on Friday (February 27), where 35 Manx residents are remembered after losing their lives in the tragedy.
The aircraft crashed on February 27, 1958 on the slopes of Winter Hill near Horwich. Of the 42 people on board, only seven survived.
During the service, Chief Constable Russ Foster laid a wreath in memory of Police Sergeant Jack Cretney, who was among those who died.
The event was organised by the Rotary Club of Douglas and brought members of the community together to pay their respects.
Thanks were also given to the people of Horwich, particularly the Rotary Club of Horwich, for their rescue efforts and continued support following the disaster.
A plaque is located on the side of a building at the former IBA transmitting station at Winter Hill. Engineers from the station assisted in the rescue operation. The site is now owned by Arqiva.
