RNLI ‘Incredibly Proud’ of Gilli

Douglas’ lifeboat station says all of its crew is “incredibly proud of its fundraising guild chairperson, Gillian Cowley”.

Gilli has been awarded a BEM in the New Years Honours list, one of three people on the island to receive an honour this time around.

The station said: “Gilli has been fundraising for Douglas RNLI for 33 years (officially), however, used to make button holes when she was a small girl to assist with fundraising.

:It is incredibly fitting that Gilli receives this award at the end of the celebrations for the 200th year, when such an emphasis has been put on Douglas and the Isle of Man as the RNLIs birthplace.

“Thanks to Gilli and the rest of the members of the fundraising guild the RNLI has received over £1.5 million in donations, these donations go straight to saving lives at sea.

“From all of the Crew at Douglas RNLI Station – CONGRATULATIONS 🥳
