The owner of Quids Inn has declared his intention to stand in September’s General Election.
Andrew Saunders, will stand in Douglas East and says the island has been “losing its way under recent administrations”.
Mr Saunders outlined four key policy areas he believes must be addressed, including health service reform, youth engagement, economic refocusing and climate policy.
On healthcare, he called for an urgent audit of Manx care services, adding: “Using the money and human resources we have within the system better for the good of all involved.”
The businessman emphasised the need to make the Isle of Man affordable for younger generations, saying: “Creating a fairer housing market, where our children and grandchildren can afford to get on the property ladder and reintroducing a real intergenerational contract where our youths see that their work and effort will be repaid to them by our society.”
He added: “It is time for the Isle of Man government to take a real lead, and cut its own cloth appropriately, before asking any of our residents to pay any more into the pot.”
He pledged to apply his core principle to all decisions, asking: “Will this decision make the island and the lives of the Manx residents better?”
Mr Saunders will continue his involvement with Original Quids Inn and Event Management Solutions during the campaign and will host weekly public question and answer sessions.
Manx Labour Party Leader Joney Faragher has also declared her intention to contest the seat as she seeks a second term.
